The Crash of Valujet Flight 592

On May 11th, 1996 Valujet Airlines Flight 592 was carrying unexpended chemical oxygen generators for Sabretech, who had failed to either place safety caps on them or properly label them to indicate the hazards if improperly handled.

The oxygen generators began operating some time after being loaded and possibly as late as take-off. The resulting fire, exascerbated by there being no fire or smoke detectors or fire suppression system in the relevant cargo compartments, caused structural damage and brought the aircraft down in the Everglades, Miami, Florida, killing all 110 onboard.

The same area has also seen a controlled descent into the Florida Everglades in 1972.
