Course: "Safe Systems: Procure, Analyse, Develop, Operate" |
|
|
This three day course addresses the full life cycle of safety engineering and safety management for those organisations involved in the procurement, analysis, development or operation of systems which may be safety-critical. The duty of care of an organisation is discussed, as are safety standards and sources of information which may impact upon the level of acceptable safety. Techniques of hazard identification and risk assessment are taught including Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies. This course also shows how good engineering practices (such as inherent safety, reliability, availability and maintainability (RAM) engineering and layers of protection) impact positively upon risk assessment and the derivation of Safety Integrity Levels (SIL). Activities once a system is in operation, such as maintenance, modification and monitoring, are also covered. Documentation mechanisms such as a hazard log and a safety case are also covered, as are the roles of verification and validation (V and V), independent safety assessment and the safety audit in both ensuring and assuring safety.
